Working with value strings has been a game changer for me. Much of my subject matter can only be translated through very close value and hue shifts. Having values 1-9 pre-mixed is the best solution I have found to get into the flow of painting quickly and easily. It eliminates guesswork and the confusion of where to begin with mixing color.
l will show you how I create a value string of raw umber (the most useful color for painting from nature) and package each shade in 8 ml tubes. Pre loaded tubes allow you to have them at the ready each time you set up a palette.
