Despite their fragile appearance, roses are powerfully designed pieces of living architecture. In this two day live workshop, students will have an opportunity to spend time observing a variety of roses from the garden here at Rush Hollow Studio.
We will learn to see these flowers as individuals rather than generic “types”. They are living beings that have gesture and growth habit. We will use drawing to explore their life force. I draw them all the time and am continually challenged and amazed by their beauty!
We'll stock the class supplies you need to minimize the hassle and expense of bringing your own. The materials list includes the following:
Indoor easels, tables, lights, vases, flowers, paper, pencils, charcoal, erasers.
You may also choose to bring your own outdoor easel and any other favorite materials as well.
We'll provide a light lunch each day.
To ensure you receive individual guidance, we limit the class size to ten students. This also provides an intimate and supportive environment for exploration.
Rush Hollow Studio is tucked into the rolling countryside of southwestern Vermont near the New York State border. This whole area provides rich inspiration for painting, drawing, and other creative pursuits. A creek with several small waterfalls, farm fields, woods, gardens, and wildlife habitat are all within walking distance of the barn.
The riding around Rush Hollow Studio is superb.
If you will be traveling with someone who likes to ride bikes, Parker can serve up daily rides, short or long, flat or hilly, slow or as fast as he can go. Whether it's riding on the local paved roads, gravel roads, or MTB trails, cycling around southwestern Vermont and upstate New York is fantastic.
The studio is within driving distance of both Boston and New York (but a world away!). Click on this link for information about traveling by car, rail, or air: Traveling to Rush Hollow
Consider Bardwell Farm, walking distance (less than a mile) from our place, has two Airbnb listings, Pond Cottage and Smithy Cottage.
There are many wonderful places to stay in the towns of Dorset (just 15 minutes away) and Manchester (a scenic 30-minute drive). Below are links to nearby accommodations as well as a sampling of restaurants and cafes:
If you have questions about anything, including logistics, please feel free to email us any time.
