Take a deep dive into the beautiful but challenging subject of flowers. The spring is truly glorious here in Southern Vermont, and the garden will have a wealth of subject matter to choose from.
This class will focus on the skills needed to simplify and grasp the essential structure of these complex forms.
Open to artists with some experience. Class size capped at eight students.

Despite their delicate appearance, flowers can be quite intimidating! During this week-long immersive workshop, students will gain the confidence necessary to tackle them in their future studio work.
You'll learn how to set up the subject in the proper light, look for the underlying masses, and minimize unnecessary detail. Among the techniques presented will be:
Set up and lighting
Wash in technique
Palette knife and brush handling
Seeing and mixing accurate color
We'll stock the class supplies you need to minimize the hassle and expense of bringing your own. The materials list includes the following:
Indoor easels, tables, lights, vases, flowers, oil paints, mediums, solvents, palettes, and painting surfaces.
We'll also provide a selection of brushes and palette knives, but you may want to bring your own. You may also choose to bring your own outdoor easel and any other favorite materials as well.
We'll provide a light lunch each day and a celebratory farewell dinner prepared by Chef Parker, aka the "Guy Behind the Camera."
To ensure you receive individual guidance, we limit the class size to ten students. This also provides an intimate and supportive environment for exploration.
Rush Hollow Studio is tucked into the rolling countryside of southwestern Vermont near the New York State border. This whole area provides rich inspiration for painting, drawing, and other creative pursuits. A creek with several small waterfalls, farm fields, woods, gardens, and wildlife habitat are all within walking distance of the barn.
The riding around Rush Hollow Studio is superb.
If you will be traveling with someone who likes to ride bikes, Parker can serve up daily rides, short or long, flat or hilly, slow or as fast as he can go. Whether it's riding on the local paved roads, gravel roads, or MTB trails, cycling around southwestern Vermont and upstate New York is fantastic.
The studio is within driving distance of both Boston and New York (but a world away!). Click on this link for information about traveling by car, rail, or air: Traveling to Rush Hollow
Consider Bardwell Farm, walking distance (less than a mile) from our place, has two Airbnb listings, Pond Cottage and Smithy Cottage.
There are many wonderful places to stay in the towns of Dorset (just 15 minutes away) and Manchester (a scenic 30-minute drive). Below are links to nearby accommodations as well as a sampling of restaurants and cafes:
