Timeless methods
Studying your chosen subject in depth is one of most creative and fulfilling parts of the painting process. In this two-session workshop, you will learn the methods that have inspired some of the world's greatest painters.
New creative paths
When you observe a form deeply over a period of hours, it's satisfying in a a very particular way. There's an emotional connection to the subject that opens up a path for a series of creative work. This method allows for a spontaneous reaction without the complicated task of creating a fully developed composition.
Set-up essentials
During the class, Kathy will discuss the preparation of surfaces and setting up a subject. She will also provide a brief study of masterworks. Many masters throughout history have used this technique, including Degas and Van Gogh, and their works give us an endless source of inspiration.
Direct demonstration
The second day will include a direct demonstration of painting from life. Kathy will choose a still life subject, but the method works just as well for any representational subject, including figuration and landscape.
