Kathleen Speranza has explored many subjects in her more than 30 years of painting and teaching, but roses are her current obsession. During her distinguished academic career, she taught painting and drawing for all college levels. She was on the faculty of the Rhode Island School of Design for the past several years.
Her paintings explore the visual language of space, light, color, and form as it relates to specific subjects from nature. The most recent paintings investigate the poetic potential of botanical life. Her works relating to garden roses, with their extreme subtlety of color and structure, are perhaps her best-known images.
Her works appear in public and private collections in the U.S. and the U.K. Speranza holds a BFA from Boston University and an MFA from Yale. Her work can be seen on Facebook and Instagram. She lives and works in West Pawlet, Vermont, with her husband, Parker Heath.
